Tudor Watch Company History

Tudor Watches, founded by Hans Wilsdorf in February 1926, began with a vision of creating high-quality timepieces at a more modest price than Rolex watches. The earliest Tudor watches feature a straightforward TUDOR signature on the dial, characterized by an elongated horizontal bar on the “T” extending above the remaining letters.

In 1936, “Veuve de Philippe Hüther” transferred the “The TUDOR” brand to Hans Wilsdorf. The Tudor rose logo, encased within a shield, was introduced on the dials, symbolizing strength and elegance. Starting in 1947, a year after Tudor’s official launch, the shield was gradually removed. The logo then featured only the company name and the rose, either finely drawn or in relief, emphasizing the brand’s elegance and style.

The first Tudor models were introduced in the late 1940s and early 1950s, including the Tudor Oyster and the Tudor Oyster Prince, which combined reliability with robustness.

In 1954, Tudor released the iconic Tudor Submariner, a diver’s watch that established the brand’s reputation for durability and performance. This model became a favorite among professional divers and military forces worldwide.
