History of Rolex Datejust

Introduced in 1945 to commemorate Rolex’s 40th anniversary, the Rolex Datejust was the world’s first self-winding waterproof chronometer wristwatch to feature an automatically changing the date — a revolutionary innovation that forever altered watchmaking. The debut reference 4467, crafted in 18k yellow gold and paired with the newly designed Jubilee bracelet, instantly set the Datejust apart. By the 1950s, Rolex expanded the collection to include stainless steel and Rolesor models (refs. 5030, 5031), while the Datejust name began appearing on the dial.
